Shatter Me Series By Tahereh Mafi
Hello!! Welcome to 2021. I’ve been looking forward to writing my first book review on this blog for a while now, and I thought what better than to start with one of my all time favorite series. Tahereh Mafi is easily in my top five favorite authors for both her talented story-telling and her amazing character. I broke down my ratings into four categories: Overall rating, romance, writing style, and plot, because I find these to be the things I’m always curious about before starting a new book. I then included a synopsis, my overall thoughts, individual ratings for each book, and some information about the author! I hope you enjoy.
No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal, but The Reestablishment has plans for her. Plans to use her as a weapon.
But Juliette has plans of her own.
After a lifetime without freedom, she’s finally discovering a strength to fight back for the very first time — and to find a future with the one boy she lost forever.
In the electrifying first book in the Shatter Me series, Tahereh Mafi presents a riveting dystopian world, a thrilling superhero story, and unforgettable heroine.
From book one, I fell in love with the way Mafi chose to portray the state of her heroine’s mental health in such a poetic way. As the main character’s mental state improved throughout the series, so did the writing style and the growth of Juliette’s character is clear as the story progresses.
This is a story about healing and acceptance and finding your strength, and I think that is evident within several of the characters in this story. Speaking of characters, that’s another thing Mafi does extraordinarily well. Each character is unique and dynamic, and feels like a real person with quirks and hobbies and flaws.
My favorite book in the series was Ignite Me (book 3), for reasons I can’t disclose because… spoilers. So, if you find the first two books to be dragging, please please please stick it out until book three. While I wasn’t entirely impressed with the final book, I still really enjoyed it. I think that the disappointment stemmed from me not wanting the series to end — Mafi gave us as much closure as possible. With that being said, I highly recommend this thrilling and beautiful YA Dystopian.

Individual Novella Ratings:
Just a side note, the novellas aren’t necessary to understand the series. Personally, I read the main books first and then went back and read the novellas.

Taken from her Instagram, she shares a little hint with her readers about her new series:
“It’s like if Game of Thrones was set in the Persian Empire, and it’s inspired in part by Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh, which is a great, epic work dear to my heart.”Tahereh Mafi
Below is a list of other books Mafi has written:

“The moon is a loyal companion.
It never leaves. It’s always there, watching, steadfast, knowing us in our light and dark moments, changing forever just as we do. Every day it’s a different version of itself. Sometimes weak and wan, sometimes strong and full of light. The moon understands what it means to be human.
Uncertain. Alone. Cratered by imperfections.”Tahereh Mafi’, Shatter Me
